Branding For A Dubai Property Developer
A Dubai developer branding itself around neighbours, not luxury.
Whale Studio created a branding system for Buyut Aljiwar, a new Dubai developer focused on a new generation of expats. Inspired by the Arabic word for “neighbourhood,” the brand is built around ideas of belonging, proximity, and collective living. Whale Studio developed a modular identity system of interconnected elements to express human connection and adaptable growth. The system extends across print, digital, environmental applications, web, collaterals, merchandise, and social media. The Latin lettering was designed to echo the rhythm and proportions of Arabic script, giving the brand a locally grounded character without directly imitating traditional forms.
Insights- Buyut Aljiwar is positioned as a developer for Dubai’s new generation of expats, and Whale Studio built the identity around the Arabic word for “neighbourhood” — shifting the story from amenities and views to belonging, connection, and collective living.
- The core visual idea is modularity: interconnected elements form a flexible identity system that represents proximity and can scale across print, digital, environmental applications, web, collaterals, merchandise, and social media.
- A standout craft decision was the Latin lettering, which was designed to echo the rhythm and proportions of Arabic script while avoiding direct imitation — a more grounded alternative to the usual faux-Arabic styling seen in Gulf property branding.
- Whale Studio is a Dubai-founded, distributed studio launched in 2024, with 12 people across six cities and a stated mission to “change the visual landscape of the UAE and the MENA region.”
