The Future Movement is the brand which holds all the community brands together.
We were looking for a typeface that has a bit of an activist character, something that is strong and rebellious.
This feature article, created in partnership with Grammarly, explores how clear communication underpins successful design practice. Through insights from Studio Yukiko, New Studio, and Grammarly’s own design team, it highlights strategies for managing cross-cultural collaboration, remote teamwork, and constructive disagreement. The piece emphasizes that clarity, empathy, and intentional communication are essential tools for creative professionals.
The article is part of The Brand Identity’s 'The Edit' series, highlighting five creative projects from around the world. Featured works include Studio Work’s joyful identity for Songlit, New Studio’s bold branding for CARTE BLANCHE, Need’s thoughtful design for Panos Prints, The Northern Block’s charitable typeface Maggy, and Ashley Simonetto’s minimalist packaging for HIKUU. Each project showcases distinct creative approaches across branding, digital, and typographic design.
New Studio developed a systematic and community-focused identity for Nike Future Movement, a Nike initiative supporting activist causes. The design draws inspiration from traditional media like broadsheet newspapers, using a monochrome palette and Pangram Pangram’s Formula typeface to convey strength and unity. The project emphasizes flexibility, activism, and community voices through a bold yet restrained visual system.
