Custom Typeface Creation For A Finnish Design Company
Schick Toikka created a custom typeface for Marimekko's rebranding efforts. The typeface features both Sans and Slab variants, along with a comprehensive set of figures and symbols. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Marimekko logotype, the design is rooted in the Olivetti typewriter letters that were favored by the company's founder, Armi Ratia. The new typeface aims to reflect the vibrant identity of Marimekko, which has been a prominent name in Finnish design since its establishment in 1951. Art direction for the project was led by Tsto, contributing to a cohesive look that aligns with Marimekko's renowned prints and colors.
