Brand And Website Repositioning For Brown Bag Films
A 30-year brand update, and they made animation the identity.
Piquant partnered with Brown Bag Films to redefine the animation studio’s brand and digital presence. The project introduced a motion-led identity and a video-first website that reflect the studio’s creative range, technical expertise, and global reach across Dublin, Toronto, and Bali.
Insights- Brown Bag Films’ main issue was a lag, not a failure: the studio’s output had grown into more formats, audiences, and original IP, but its brand system stayed static for decades.
- The rebrand was framed as the first major brand update in over 30 years for a studio founded in Dublin in 1994, now operating across Dublin, Toronto, and Bali.
- Piquant says the strategy was co-created with senior leadership to define mission, values, and differentiation, then built into a flexible identity that shifts between playful, character-led moments and more composed, professional communications.
- Animation became the brand system itself: a motion-led identity and a video-first Drupal website built with atomic design, immersive IP-led navigation, and multisite support so future properties can spin out on the same platform.
- Accessibility was built in from the start, with WCAG 2.1 AA standards including colour contrast, keyboard navigation, and screen-reader compatibility — a notable move for a video-heavy site where accessibility is often added later.
