Campaign For Craft Sportswear Running Category
Why did a running brand cast its hero as a caveman?
Forsman & Bodenfors created a campaign for Craft Sportswear to strengthen its position within the running community. Instead of following the typical aspirational athlete narrative, the campaign featured ultra marathon runner Tim Tollefson portrayed as a caveman, reminding audiences that humans were born to run.
Insights- Craft’s main twist was rejecting the usual aspirational athlete formula and instead framing running as an inherited instinct: Forsman & Bodenfors cast ultra-marathon runner Tim Tollefson as a caveman to remind people humans were “always made to run.”
- The film is intentionally stripped of conventional performance marketing cues — no product shots, no performance metrics — arguing that the drive behind running today is the same ancient instinct, modern watches and gels notwithstanding.
- The story follows the caveman across rough terrain, drinking from a stream, then moving through a landscape that morphs from craggy mountain to city street before he enters a café and becomes present-day Tollefson.
- Key figure Tim Tollefson is an ultra-marathon runner and former U.S. National Team member; he said running is “more than a sport – it’s a way to feel alive,” and described the role as physically demanding and close to his own experience.
- The transformation was made believable by special effects artist Arturo Balseiro, whose credits include Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy; the film was directed by Filip Nilsson and launched globally on 7 May 2025 as Craft pushed its road-to-trail positioning.
